Messe Messe
First Floor Gallery Harare (Victoria Falls)
First Floor Gallery Harare (Victoria Falls)
The exhibition is a celebration of diverse talent in the gallery and also an interpretation of scale. The exhibition title, meaning ‘altogether’ is also reference to a children’s counting song speaking to the joy of doing things in a group.
While the artists are all accomplished professionals with major international reputations, they are all actively interested in being and staying relevant to their local audiences.
Helen Teede is currently at Tracey Emin’s prestigious artist residency in UK. Wycliffe Mundopa’s work is currently on show in San Francisco with Jenkins Johnson gallery, Gresham Tapiwa Nyaude is preparing for a solo exhibition with Braverman Gallery in Tel Aviv, Pebofatso Mokoena is preparing for a solo exhibition in Harare and has just completed a commission for a limited release of linen with Mr Price Home, Shamilla Aasha is preparing for a two person presentation of her work at Artissima art fair in Turin, Italy, Mavis Tauzeni has just completed her third solo exhibition in under twelve months with sell out exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York, Zacharaha Magasa just had a sell-out presentation at Latitudes art fair in Johannesburg and the youngest artist Again Chokuwamba has had his first solo project with the gallery and has already secured sales to international collectors. Messe Messe also shows what is possible when artists are supported and also support each. All the artists in this group are friends and colleague and have time and again stepped up when called upon to help and lift each other up.
The works in Messe Messe are all deliberately at a smaller scale creating an even playing ground, where artists do not dominate each other and are also are accessible to the viewers.
Messe Messe is about celebrating artists, celebrating excellence and celebrating audiences.
